Brilliance in Thermal Protection Technology

What Makes The Thermopod & ThermoKeeper Technology Better

ThermoKeepers®: Always Sustainable...

Always Superior to EPS Foam

Using Environmentally-friendly and socially-responsible products such as ThermoKeepers®, that are biodegradable, recyclable and compostable, builds priceless goodwill among clients and the general public while saving considerable disposal costs.

ThermoKeepers® can be used to maintain required refrigerated product temperatures alone or in a larger non-refrigerated container/box so that both refrigerated and non-refrigerated products can be shipped in the same non-refrigerated container or truck/airplane, etc...

Therefore, only one non-refrigerated truck is required instead of two (one refrigerated and one refrigerated). The panels can be produced exactly to size for your packing system, making the assembly simple, and the fit perfect.

Preserved & Protected...

To the casual observer, ThermoPod®, LLC products appear to be simple pouches, box liners, covers and mailers. A closer look reveals profound and unique inventions and products that, not only protect, but help maintain required temperatures for virtually every conceivable payload, from deep frozen, to room temperature, to warm.

The biodegradable fiber-based insulation materials we use are a proprietary blend and alignment of a certain length of cotton fibers that create loft and trapped air space, maximizing the thermal properties of the all-natural insulation.

The Science Behind Our Temperature Control System...

Providing a container offering excellent insulation describes only half of the packaging system. The system also includes two different types of refrigerant to pack around the payload to ensure the desired temperatures are maintained in transit.

To understand how this refrigerant works requires a basic understanding of some chemistry principles. Let’s begin with “phase change.” All substances have three phases: solid, liquid, and gas. The term “phase change temperature” refers to the temperature at which a substance changes from one phase to the next. The most familiar example is water, which, we all know, changes from liquid to solid at 0 Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) and from liquid to gas at 100 C (212 F). The phase change in which we are most interested for refrigerated and perishables packing is the change from solid to liquid.

Phase change is important because most substances require a significant amount of energy to move between phases. Melting ice provides a familiar example. It requires about љ calorie of energy to raise the temperature of 1 gram of ice one degree Celsius (1 milliliter = 1 gram). This means that 1 gram of ice taken out of an ordinary household freezer (which is usually about -15 C) will warm quickly to 0 C (freezing) and require only about 8 calories of energy to do so. But it will take 80 calories to change that cubic centimeter of ice to liquid water, all the while at 0 C. It then takes only one calorie of energy to raise the temperature of one cc liquid water one degree Celsius.

ThermoPod® Biodegradable Protective Film:

The inner and outer protective films used in the manufacturing of ThermoPod® products utilize a 1% minimum load by weight of ECM's MasterBatch Pellets. This additive, combined with our other selected, proprietary plastic resins render the ThermoPod® film biodegradable while still maintaining our desired characteristics, ThermoPod® protective film has been tested to be biodegradable when it is placed in conditions wherein they are in constant contact with other, similar biodegradable materials.

ECM BioFilms, Inc:

ECM Biofilms, Inc supplies manufacturers of plastic products with additives that render such materials biodegradable, yet still price competitive.

Plastic products made with ECM additives:

Biodegrade when disposed of in a biodegrading environment, regardless if anaerobic or aerobic in nature; such as:

  • Landfills
  • Compost piles
  • Buried or littered

In agricultural settings, these are:

  • Recyclable
  • Can be made with recycled resins
  • Do not use heat, light or mechanical stress to break then down
  • Do not require special handling (unlike PLA and oxodegradable products)
  • Do not contain heavy metals (unlike most oxodegradable products)

Master-Batch Pellets® are used for extruding films and sheet materials (blown or cast), used in blow molding, injection molding and roto-molding products and parts. The addition of Master-Batch Pellets® allow products to retain their desired attributes without adversely affecting the integrity or appearance of the materials.
